Guildford Museum

Guildford Museum is housed in beautiful, historic buildings next to the Castle Grounds. The exhibitions are free to visit and include a variety of changing exhibitions, plus a permanent collection of objects dating from prehistoric times.

Visit Guildford’s historic museum on the edge of the beautiful Castle Grounds and Castle Keep. Entrance is free.

Guildford Beer! – A new community presentation.

This small display by local group Halow looks at the history of brewing in Guildford and the history of the oldest pub in town. Halow supports young adults with a learning disability in Guildford and around Surrey.

Tunsgate – a century of change

This display is researched and produced by the Friends of Guildford Museum and is the second of our exhibitions curated by community groups. In 1918 the Tunsgate area of Guildford was a narrow, dark, mostly residential street next to the fire damaged remains of a large draper’s store. It was transformed into ‘the place to be’ with the Picture Playhouse cinema and Boxer’s Café.

Sitting Down For Our Rights: Remembering the 1968 Guildford School of Art Sit-In

The late 1960s saw protests across the globe against injustice. This was the era of the civil rights movement in the US and worldwide opposition to the Vietnam War. Students were involved in many of these protests. In Guildford in 1968 a group of students at the School of Art took part in a “sit-in” protesting about what they felt was the declining quality of their education and the lack of consultation on changes to their courses. This event will be held in the Victorian School Room at 391/2 Castle Street, Guildford, just around the corner from the Museum. Take A Closer Look

Family Fun – Guildford Museum A to Z

This talk is part of the supporting programme for the exhibition Take A Closer Look 21 July - 29 September. Take a closer look at intriguing objects from the collections. Spare ten to twenty minutes in your day pr lunch break to join these informal conversational sessions in the exhibition. One special object will be highlighted in each session. A Guided Tour – Guildford Museum Buildings
