Women Artists and Surrealism

This course will give an insight into the female artists who have contributed so much to the Surrealist movement, as well as the love, friendship and rivalry of these artists beside the men in Surrealism. We will study works by stars such as Lee Miller, Frida Kahlo, Eileen Agar, Meret Oppenheim, Dorothea Tanning and Leonora Carrington and more. This course coincides with the preparation for a major exhibition of Dorothea Tanning's work in the Tate Modern.

When she was a child, Shirley Williams believed that being an MP would give her the power to bring about all kinds of good things for society.  Join her for An Audience with Baroness Shirley Williams (Thursday 17 January) as she talks about her mother – Vera Brittain – whose activities helped shape the political landscape in the early years of the 20th Century, as well as the issue of women’s suffrage.
