March 24 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm£16
Cranleigh Choral Society presents Mozart’s Requiem and Jonathan Willcocks’ ‘Lux Perpetua’, together with the Cranleigh School Choirs and the Merriman Concert Orchestra. To be performed at 7.30pm in the Cranleigh School Speech Hall, Horsehoe Lane, Cranleigh GU6 8QQ.
Mozart’s final work, a mighty ‘Mass for the Dead’, anonymously commissioned and left unfinished at his own untimely death at the age of 35, has long been a source of fascination and is one of the most popular works in the choral repertoire. Here it is beautifully complimented by Jonathan Willcocks’ contemporary setting of ‘Eternal Light’, written in 1998 for the eightieth anniversary of the ‘war to end all wars’. A powerful and though-provoking work, it includes musical settings of texts from the war poet, Siegfried Sassoon, Laurence Hausman and Hindu scripture in its earnest appeal for a world free from war.
