Jazz Cafe Stan Sulzmann with Kate Williams
September 25 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm£15
One of the UK’s biggest names in British contemporary jazz, Stan’s career stretches back to the 1960s, when as part of a uniquely talented crop of British musicians, he played with Graham Collier, John Taylor, Kenny Wheeler, Gordon Beck, as well as leading many groups of his own.
Since that time Stan has been at the forefront of European contemporary jazz, and his talents have been sought by a host of discerning musicians, including Gil Evans, Mike Gibbs, Kenny Clarke Francy Boland and Michael Brecker. Constantly in demand as a guest soloist, he has appeared with bands across Europe, including the Hilversum Radio Orchestra, NDR Big Band (alongside Chet Baker), Hanover Radio Symphony Orchestra and the New York Composers Orchestra.
For this intimate performance at the Jazz Café , Stan is joined by his long term colleague, jazz pianist and composer, Kate Williams. Daughter of guitarist John Williams, and a recipient of the John Dankworth Award For Talent Deserving Wider Recognition, Kate has gained a distinctive reputation as both a writer and performer, and has released several CDs to critical acclaim. Stan Sulzmann – sax, Kate Wiliams – piano, Dave Ingamells – drums, Marianne Windham bass
”But a shining light of the whole attractive enterprise is the presence of Stan Sulzmann, who seems to sound more personal and hauntingly moving than ever.” John Fordham, Jazz UK
