ASHLEY HUTCHINGS MBE & BECKY MILLS-“Fairport Beginnings”
Ashley Hutchings (aka “The Guv’nor”), was a founding member of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and The Albion Band and as such has been a leading light in the creation of Folk/Rock music. He was around in the ’60s when Britain lead the World in innovative music and he met and influenced many of the forerunners in Pop, Rock and Folk music. His is a story worth telling and tonight Ashley will share with us some of his memories and insights into the World of music back then. The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix come into his story……..
Ashley and Becky have both played for us at Grayshott before; Ashley when he supported his son, Blair Dunlop. Blair has since gone on to great things in the World of Folk. Becky came and played for us with Ken Nicol, who was also a former member of The Albion Band. Becky is a wonderful guitarist and singer in her own right and tonight she and Ashley will play and sing some early Fairport Convention songs for us.
“Ashley Hutchings is the single most important figure in English Folk/Rock. His group Fairport Convention, recorded some of the best versions of my unreleased songs.
Listen to the Bass playing on Percy’s Song to hear how great he is.”
