Choral Workshop – Mass in B minor
11/01/2020 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm
For singers, here’s something to look forward to in January!
The Mass in B minor is widely regarded as one of the supreme achievements of classical music, bringing together all of the major musical innovations that JS Bach made in his career, and an inspiration to later composers including Haydn. The Waverley Singers have performed it three times previously, the last almost exactly 20 years ago. We can’t wait any longer to revisit it!
Our choral workshop on Bach’s great Mass in B minor takes place on Saturday 11th January at South Farnham School (10.30 am to 4.30pm).
We will be working through various movements, which will give a unique opportunity to get to know this exceptional music from the inside. Our director of music, Richard Pearce, has worked with many of the leading exponents of early music performance, and will bring his insights into not only what makes the piece so great, but also how to get the most enjoyment from it.
Tickets: £15 in advance at www.ticketsource.co.uk/waverleysingers or £18 on the door (subject to availability). Score hire £2. We will be using the Bärenreiter edition for the concert.
This forms part of our preparation for the concert on Saturday 21st March at 7.30pm when we will perform the Mass with professional orchestra and soloists at St Andrew’s Garrison Church, Aldershot. Please save the date!
We have a special membership offer for singers who would like to join us to perform the Mass. For full details and how to apply, please see our web site page waverleysingers.com/bminor2020.htm
