The Pilgrim Stitchers run an annual short course in needlework inspired by specially selected, usually historical, embroidery. This year the Pilgrim Stitchers will be based in the Brew House at Guildford House and the course will include specially arranged opportunities to view embroidery from the collections cared for by Guildford Museum. This workshop is suitable for those who want to learn the processes involved in painting furniture or other household pieces. Students will first produce a number of small panels, using a variety of furniture painting techniques, including distressing, finishing, waxing, colour washing and stencilling. Over the years Beth has enjoyed making things from paper and scrap materials, including papier-mache vessels and brooches, rag rugs, quilts and shadow puppets. The collages shown in this exhibition have all been made in the last 14 years. During that time Beth has been particularly influenced by the work of Paul Klee, and has had a strong interest in Islamic patterns.
